Jefferson River

The Jefferson River begins near Twin Bridges, Montana and then meanders more than 80 miles until it dumps into the Missouri River at the Missouri River Headwaters State Park in Three Forks. There are three sections to this river: the upper, middle, and lower section. The upper section has brushy lined riverbanks that flows for 50 miles though the valley. The middle section has more steep canyon formations with good access. The river here is deep and slow. The lower section has many branches and braids with cottonwood trees that line the bank. The Jefferson River is predominantly a brown trout river, but the rainbows are making a comeback. The Jefferson doesn't pose a high pressure for fishing, so it is mostly quiet and peaceful. The best fly fishing is found in the upper section of the river. A boat is best for fishing this river so that you can get to the deep spots. It also makes a great floating river. There are 11 Fishing Access Sites.

Madison River

Considered to be one of the prettiest and most popular rivers in Montana, the Madison River provides scenic floats, gorgeous canyons, and breathtaking views. Even if the fish are not biting, the land surrounding the river makes any day worth it. The Madison begins in Yellowstone National Park and flows for more than 140 miles before reaching the Missouri River near Three Forks, Montana. The mighty Madison River ranks as one of the top rivers for trout fishing and contains high numbers of quality sized brown and rainbow trout. Whether you are dry fly, nymph, or streamer fishermen, there is enough for all to enjoy success on these waters.

Big Hole River

Experience incredible fly fishing on the rivers in Southwest Montana. The Big Hole River is known as the "Last Best River" with 3000 fish per mile! The river begins at Skinner Lake located in the Beaverhead Mountains and flows more than 150 miles where it joins the Ruby and Beaverhead River. The three rivers create the Jefferson River in Twin Bridges. This Blue-Ribbon Trout Stream flows free with fluvial Arctic Grayling, Cutthroats, Brook Trout, Mountain Whitefish, Brown Trout, and Rainbow Trout. There are 14 official access sites along the length of the Big Hole. All access sites have boat launches.

Beaverhead River

Sure, the Beaverhead River can look deceiving, often resembling nothing more than a small irrigation ditch. However, the beautiful Beaverhead River holds some of the largest trout in the state of Montana. The river begins in Clark Canyon Reservoir that is south of Dillon, Montana. It eventually meets up with the Big Hole River just outside of Twin Bridges. You can access the Beaverhead from 6 different access sites. The river is great for wade or boat fishing. The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest claims the title as the largest of all the national forests in Montana. It spans over 3.32 million acres and lies in eight of Montana's counties. The forest provides timber, minerals, and grazing land as well as a habitat for wildlife. The area displays fantastic mountain ranges climbing toward the sky. These ranges include: the Anaconda, Bitterroot, Beaverhead, Flint Creek, Gravelly, Highland, Madison, Tobacco Root, and Sapphire Mountains. The snowpack of the mountains forms the Big Hole, Beaverhead, and Ruby rivers. These three rivers then join and flow as one in the Jefferson River.
